(The team played in the Japan Series in 1962 and 1964, so to say they never played in the finals from 1947-85 is untrue.)
(Also, Japanese fans have put nearly NO emphasis on the Curse of the Colonel in the past decade or more... I can't speak for the years before 2014, but since I have become a fan, I have heard (and read) way more about it in English than I ever have in Japanese.)
Sorry. I have been asked about the Curse a hundred times by people outside of Japan, and I always have to disappoint them that this is honestly a non-story in Japan, even after the Tigers won the Series last year. VERY few people talked about it… and the cremation of the statue barely made any ripples in the news and on socials.
Appreciate the insight as a Tigers' fan. Personally, I wouldn't say no discussion, I was in Osaka during Games 2-4 during the Series and it was still brought up. I think it was even on NHK around then
That's a very interesting story, Leon; and, while some might choose to make light of the late colonel, there is a lot more to him and his family than most expect:
A few inaccuracies but interesting read.

Thanks Trevor, you do sound more knowledgeable on this topic so appreciate the edits!
