I recognize her voice, from the many "ethnic radio" programs we have on college radio Sundays in Cleveland. Thanks for putting the story to it.

Also, as an aside to your "voices of nations" thing in the early part of this essay; I gotta name one of my favorites: Vladimir Vysotsky, the Soviet-era Russian actor/singer who was their Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, rolled into one. His music was a favorite of official and underground Soviets alike; perfectly suited for drunken roaring, accompanied by the sound of God's Worst Guitar. Thanks again for enlightening me, Kanpai!
